TAXI LANDS ON TOP OF PARKED CARS IN DRAMATIC NEWPORT ROAD CRASH

A major road in Newport has reopened following a spectacular collision that left a taxi perched on top of parked cars.

Emergency services rushed to Bassaleg Road, near the Handpost pub, shortly after midday on Friday, May 22, after a taxi collided with two stationary vehicles.

Images from the scene captured the dramatic aftermath, showing one car balanced on top of another, with several vehicles along the street sustaining visible damage.

Gwent Police confirmed that the collision involved a single moving car and two parked vehicles. Officials reported that miraculously no injuries were recorded and no arrests were made.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service deployed crews from Maindee and Malpas to the scene. Firefighters found that no one was trapped inside the vehicles and were able to secure the area safely within roughly 20 minutes.

The incident caused significant traffic disruption throughout the afternoon. Buses operated by Stagecoach and Newport Transport had to be diverted away from Bassaleg Road, while local drivers faced slow-moving queues on surrounding routes as they searched for alternative paths.

Recovery teams successfully cleared the debris and the damaged vehicles, allowing the road to be fully reopened to traffic later that afternoon.
