
A dad-of-two has been left unable to work after thieves smashed into his taxi in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle, stealing his phone and a day’s worth of takings.
Shofiul Islam, 40, returned to his car on Monday, May 11, to find his passenger window shattered and his vehicle ransacked.
The thieves discovered a Google Pixel phone hidden in the glovebox and made off with an Adidas bag containing approximately £200 in cash.
Mr Islam, who drives for Delta, believes he was specifically targeted because he drives a taxi. "There were other cars in the car park, but they targeted my car only," he said. "They probably thought there would be notes or coins inside."
The theft has hit the driver hard, leaving him "empty" and forced to borrow £100 from a friend just to get by.
Between the cost of a new window, a replacement phone, and the stolen cash, the crime has cost him hundreds of pounds and vital time on the road. "I need the car to work so it’s affecting me badly," he explained.
While Merseyside Police are investigating the break-in, which occurred between 3:30 pm and 6:30 pm on New Bird Street, Mr Islam is not optimistic about recovering his property.
He is now urging other drivers to stay vigilant. "I've heard about it happening to other taxi drivers," he warned. "If it helps other people, I want to let people know."
Police have asked anyone with information to contact them or call Crimestoppers anonymously.
