Four taxis/PHVs were immediately suspended and several drivers were caught breaking the law during a joint safety operation in Keighley.
West Yorkshire Police's Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) recently posted on its Facebook page about the operation which took place in the town in February.
The NPT was joined by Bradford Council’s licensing department to inspect local vehicles and ensure passenger safety.
During the initiative, officials examined 12 taxis/PHVs in total. Four of these were pulled from service immediately due to "serious safety concerns," while another vehicle was seized because the driver had no licence or insurance.
A spokesperson for the Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) explained: "The focus was simple: keeping passengers safe and ensuring licensed vehicles and drivers meet the required standards."
In addition to the vehicle suspensions, officers dealt with more than 20 traffic offences. These included drivers using mobile phones while behind the wheel, seatbelt violations, and cars found with no MOT or other defects.
The operation also allowed police to identify criminal offenses and gather information to help protect vulnerable passengers. Officers used the opportunity to educate drivers on legal requirements to ensure they follow the rules in the future.
The NPT spokesperson highlighted the importance of the project, stating: "This operation shows what can be achieved when agencies work together — raising standards, preventing harm and improving public confidence in the local taxi trade."
West Yorkshire Police confirmed that more operations will be carried out in the future to maintain road safety and protect the community.
