Mohammed Chowdhury, 56, of Small Heath, had his licence revoked by Tamworth Borough Council after officials decided he was no longer a "fit and proper person" to drive for the public.
The decision came after Mr. Chowdhury appeared before the council’s licensing committee twice between August 2023 and March 2024.
Authorities looked into a series of issues, including his driving penalty points and multiple reports from passengers about his behavior. Investigators also discovered that he had filed an inaccurate report about a vehicle accident.
Even the local Hackney Carriage Trade Association stepped in, submitting a petition that questioned whether he should be allowed to continue working as a driver.
Mr. Chowdhury took the case to Telford Magistrates’ Court to challenge the council's decision. However, last month, the court dismissed his appeal.
The court ruled that the council’s actions were "appropriate and necessary to protect public safety and maintain standards within the licensed trade." As a result of the failed appeal, Mr. Chowdhury was ordered to pay the council £3,000 in legal costs.
Stephen Gabriel, the council’s chief executive, praised the court’s ruling. "We welcome the court’s decision to uphold the council’s action in this case," he said.
"Public safety is at the heart of everything we do, and it’s essential that all licensed drivers meet the high standards expected of them."
He added that the council had followed a careful process based on evidence before making the final call.
"The court’s ruling reinforces that our approach is both fair and robust," Gabriel said. "We will always support drivers who meet our standards and engage positively with us.
"However, where there are serious concerns about an individual’s conduct or suitability, we will take decisive action and will not hesitate to defend those decisions in court."

The driver was originally issued a Fixed Penalty Notice for the act, which officials described as "both illegal and unhygienic."
