
Two schoolboys, aged 12 and 16, have been arrested after a stolen car crashed into a taxi.
It happened just before 5.25am on April 12, at the junction of Winterbottom Avenue and Warren Road in Hartlepool. The incident involved a red Ford Ka which had been reported stolen overnight and a Mercedes Vito taxi.
Both cars then struck a pedestrian barrier – with someone said to have run from the Ka before police officers arrived at the scene.
The 12-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy both suffered injuries.. The older 16-year-old lost consciousness and several teeth during the incident; The younger child sustained cuts and bruises and both were taken to the University Hospital of North Tees.
The 49-year-old cabbie driving the Mercedes taxi sadly sustained a head injury and he remains in the University Hospital of North Tees receiving treatment.
Police are appealing for anyone with information or any relevant doorbell, dash cam or private CCTV footage who has not yet spoken to police to contact us on the 101 number or via the Cleveland Police website, quoting ref 068120.

On 5 April at 23:50pm, a 57-year-old cabbie, a family man working for PJ cars, was driving on Fairfax Road, when he was allegedly attacked with a baseball bat by a man in his mid 20s.
