
A PH driver has has his licence revoked after being caught on camera driving a vulnerable child at 82mph on a road with a 60mph limit.
The incident, which occurred on Whitwick Road near Markfield, was filmed by the young passenger and sparked a joint investigation by local authorities.
The driver was providing home-to-school transport for a child with special educational needs when he hit the excessive speed on a single-carriageway road. Officials at Leicestershire County Council discovered the footage and immediately alerted North West Leicestershire District Council, while also reporting the driver to the police.
During a recent meeting, district councillors reviewed evidence including the video, interview notes, and a statement from the child’s mother.
Citing "public safety concerns," the council voted to revoke the driver’s private hire licence and issued a warning to ensure he cannot work even if he chooses to appeal the decision.
A spokesperson for Leicestershire County Council expressed deep concern over the driver's conduct, stating: "This driver is no longer operating on any of our routes and we are extremely disappointed by their actions.
"We take any incident like this seriously, with the safety of children our priority."
The council confirmed that the school transport contract was cancelled immediately and that "alternative arrangements were put in place for the child's transport" to ensure their continued safety.
