Eagle Chauffeuring, a luxury private hire service based in Thornaby, is actively seeking women drivers as part of an initiative to address the industry's gender imbalance and cater to female passenger preference.
The company, which operates across Teesside, Durham, and Newcastle, was founded by Babar Malik, who is reviving a brand previously associated with his father's taxi business.
Filling a Market Gap: Mr. Malik stated that the company is aiming to fill "a real gap in the market, not just for luxury travel, but for women who want to work in a way that fits around their lives." The firm hopes to help women enter the sector by offering "full training, licensing support and access to its fleet of luxury vehicles." Successful applicants will have the cost of their private hire licences covered and will be provided with one of Eagle Chauffeuring's executive vehicles.
Focus on Female Passengers: The new women drivers will specifically serve female passengers, an idea shaped by conversations with clients. Mr. Malik noted: "We’ve had women tell us they feel more comfortable with a female driver, and that’s something we want to support." This aligns with national data: a 2021 YouGov poll found that "43% of women would prefer a female driver when travelling alone at night, rising to over 60% among women aged 18 to 34."
Addressing Sector Imbalance: The move comes as statistics highlight a major gender gap, with the Department for Transport reporting that "fewer than 5% of licensed taxi and private hire drivers in England are women."The opportunity at Eagle is open to women of all backgrounds, with a specific focus on "mums and those seeking family-friendly working hours."
Commitment to Luxury: Eagle Chauffeuring, which launched earlier this year, provides a full concierge-style experience. "Everything is about providing the best of the best – from our cars to the drivers," said Mr. Malik, adding that the new female drivers will be "just as smart with business attire" as their male counterparts.
The company plans to expand its fleet from six to 30 vehicles by 2026 and is currently recruiting both male and female drivers to meet growing demand.
