From 1st April, renters, landlords and businesses can claim up to £500 towards an electric charger - up from £300 previously - covering around half the average cost of installation
• Thanks to Government support, it has never been easier or cheaper to own an EV, especially against the backdrop of high and fluctuating prices at the pumps.
• Recent global pressures and rising fuel costs underline the need to move away from volatile fossil fuels and towards cleaner, homegrown energy sources with recent data from Autotrader, showing interest in new and used EVs are up 28% and 15% respectively, since late February.
• Already, one in four cars sold are now electric and there are more than 1.7m EVs on UK roads.
• Expanded access to home charging will help more households make the switch and UK businesses gear up for the EV revolution, as figures show EV drivers can save up to £1,400 on running costs versus a comparable petrol car when accessing cheaper domestic rate - much more for taxi and private hire drivers
• Bigger grants for drivers mean lower installation costs and cheaper charging at home, with people able to power their EV for as little as 2p per mile - that’s London to Birmingham for about £3.50.
• The Government is delivering the infrastructure needed to support the uptake in electric cars, having announced £600m just last year to rollout hundreds of thousands more chargers, building on the over 118,000 already available. That’s nearly twice as many chargers as fuel pumps
Transport Secretary, Heidi Alexander said: “We’re making it easier and cheaper than ever to go electric and against the backdrop of fluctuating petrol prices, switching to an EV has never made more sense.
“Bigger grants mean renters, flat?owners, families and small businesses can install a charger for nearly half the usual cost, with home charging as low as 2p a mile.
“Backed by our Electric Car Grant which has already helping over 85,000 drivers save thousands on a new EV, and record investment in public charging, we’re giving drivers and businesses the confidence to make the switch.”
