
South Yorkshire Police is searching for a man who punched and threatened to stab a taxi driver during a "racially aggravated" assault in Sheffield.
The attack took place at around 7pm on Sunday, April 5, on Thorpe House Rise in the Norton Lees area.
According to police, a passenger hurled racist abuse at the driver and threatened to stab him before punching him three times. Fortunately, the driver was not injured and managed to drive away from the scene.
Detectives have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak with to help their investigation.
He is described as a white man, around 60 years old, 6 feet 4 inches tall, with a broad build, a bald head, and a greying goatee.
A police spokesman confirmed that "enquiries are ongoing" and urged anyone with information to contact them online or by calling 101, quoting incident number 721 of April 5, 2026.
