100 MONTHS' JAIL FOR BRADFORD ROBBER WHO HELD AXE TO CABBIE'S FACE

A 24-year-old robber who terrorised shop workers and a taxi driver has been jailed at Bradford Crown Court.

Ismael Ahmed 24 was sentenced to eight years and four months in jail after a two-day robbery spree in which he threatened shop workers with an axe and hammer before holding an axe to a taxi driver’s face and telling him: “I’m going to murder you.”

He targeted petrol stations and shops across Bradford in May, stealing cash and cigarettes and repeatedly threatening staff with serious violence.

His offending culminated after an attempted robbery at a Co-op on High Park Drive, when he returned to a waiting taxi, became aggressive and held an axe to the driver’s face while demanding he drive faster.

The driver managed to escape after stopping the vehicle and taking the keys with him.

Ahmed later admitted 10 offences, including two robberies, five attempted robberies and weapons offences.

A judge at Bradford Crown Court said Ahmed represented a danger to the public and imposed an extended sentence, including three years on licence.
