WELL DONE TO HULL TAXI FIRM, WER2, FOR SUPPORTING YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY

The firm is launching its latest campaign aiming to install Bleed Control Kits across the city to help victims of knife crime.

Nick Padgett, owner of WER2 taxi firm, said the issue of knife crime has inspired him to launch the campaign, which aims to provide one kit a week to a different location in Hull.

WER2 will be contributing a lot of its own money to fund the kits, and the campaign will be partially funded by customers, who will see a 10p increase in taxi costs. 10p from every journey will be donated to the campaign.

The Bleed Control Kits contain torniquets, gauze, dressings, chest seals, gloves and emergency foil blankets. WER2 is aiming to get as many as possible installed around the city - and is looking for suggestions for locations from the public.

Nick said the taxi company does a lot of community projects and explained how he wants to use their platform to do some good.

He said: “These kits have got everything you need to stop an emergency bleed. They are £500 each and I’m confident we can fit one a week across the city where it’s needed. We are going to part fund it from the office and put 10p on all fares. Eddie Beadle Ltd are going to fit them all for us for free.”

The first kit will be installed next week at the Walton St office, then Nick hopes to roll out one per week as the campaign goes on. The firm is looking for locations and says it is working with Humberside Police to find more spots to put the kits. Humberside Police has been contacted for comment.

Nick said: “I try to do one major project a year. I've decided this is what it’ll be. Customers are getting involved as they are going to pay an extra 10p a fare. If everyone puts 10p in it could amount to saving a life. If we can do one a week, that's 50 a year, and we are looking to get them to sports clubs, bars, restaurants around the city.”

The campaign launches this Friday with the first kit planned for the Walton St branch of WER2.
