END OF AN ERA FOR COOPERS - CHORLEY'S BIGGEST TAXI FIRM ACQUIRED BY DG GROUP AFTER 36 YEARS

One of Lancashire’s most recognisable taxi companies is entering a new chapter after 36 years of service, following its acquisition by the East Midlands-based DG Group.

Coopers Taxis Ltd, which serves Chorley, Leyland, and the surrounding areas, has been bought by the Nottingham-headquartered giant to ensure the business's future. To maintain the trusted household name, DG Group has confirmed that all existing Coopers staff and management will be retained.

Coopers Taxis was founded in 1990 by husband and wife Phil and Lynne, who started the firm from the front room of their modest home with just a single telephone line. In the first year, Lynne personally answered every call from 6am until late into the night, while Phil and six drivers operated a tiny fleet of just three vehicles.

The business moved to its Foxhole Road headquarters in 1991, embracing computerised booking technology and steadily growing into Chorley's largest taxi operator, peaking at a fleet of 118 vehicles by 2020.

Reflecting on the sale, Phil and Lynne thanked their customers, drivers, and staff, saying: "Together we’ve built a business that has become a true household name, and we’re incredibly proud of everything we’ve achieved."

They added that they are "equally proud to be passing that legacy to DG Group," noting that the new owners possess the necessary investment and expertise to take the firm to the next level while protecting its history.

For DG Group, which operates a fleet of more than 1,200 vehicles as the East Midlands' largest private hire network, the acquisition is a major milestone in its expansion.

A spokesperson for DG Group praised Coopers' "outstanding reputation" built on exceptional customer service and community commitment, stating: "This acquisition isn’t about changing what customers value about Coopers - it’s about protecting it."

The group intends to use its scale to invest in technology, training, and operational support to position the Lancashire brand for future growth.
