A 46-year-old cabbie has been jailed for 11 years after picking up an intoxicated teenager and raping her in her own home.
Khalafalla Yagoub, from Salford, was found guilty of rape at Manchester Crown Court in June and sentenced on July 13.
He received an 11-year prison term with an additional five-year extended licence, alongside a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order.
The court heard that in the early hours of November 29, 2025, Yagoub picked up the 19-year-old victim in an unbooked taxi after she left a Manchester city centre bar at 3 am. The woman was heavily intoxicated and in no fit state to consent. Yagoub drove her home and raped her inside the property.
In his police interview, Yagoub claimed the encounter was consensual, calling it a "gift" for driving her home.
Detective Constable Oliver Smith of Greater Manchester Police described this as a "web of lies."
In the days following the attack, the victim felt unwell. She later received a phone call from Yagoub not knowing who he was.
During the conversation, Yagoub spoke about their encounter, with the woman realising that she had been raped while in a vulnerable and intoxicated state, and with no recollection of what had taken place. While she had some images in her mind, she had believed them to be a dream.
She then reported the incident to the police.
Officers attempted to track Yagoub and could not locate him, but soon found that he was due to travel on flight to Istanbul on 3 December. He was arrested at the airport before he could board and subsequently taken into custody.
During the trial, the victim bravely gave evidence in court. The judge during sentencing noted that Yagoub laughed while the victim read her victim statement.
Praising the victim's bravery, Detective Constable Smith said: "Yagoub picked up a vulnerable woman and took advantage of her while she was in no fit state to consent. His actions were vile and I want to commend the woman for her bravery in coming forward – this work has been about ensuring justice for her."
