
Bishopbriggs is set to get a new taxi rank at the Kirkintilloch Road bus stop near Costa Coffee following a public consultation, East Dunbartonshire Council has decided.
The decision comes after a close public vote where residents were asked to choose between two main locations. The winning Costa site narrowly beat out a rival proposal near the Crow Tavern - which would have operated only overnight - by a tight margin of 117 votes to 109.
Two other potential locations at Kenmure Drive and a nearby Bank of Scotland bus stop were previously ruled out.
The consultation, which ran through February and March, drew 226 responses across social media and online platforms.
Because the Costa option was selected, the existing bus stop will be relocated, allowing the current space to be transformed into a dedicated layby for taxis.
At a recent meeting, councillors voted unanimously in favour of the move after Council Leader Gordon Low "moved in favour of the Costa bus stop option."
Before construction can begin, the council must advertise the proposal locally, formally notify the Chief Constable, and consult with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT).
If no legal objections are raised during this period, council officers will officially establish the required traffic regulation order to finalise the rank.
