A Glasgow taxi driver has been sentenced to seven years in prison after picking up a 23-year-old woman from a night out and raping her at his home.
Thomas Tosh, 39, attacked the woman in September 2023 after collecting her and her friends from a pub in Clydebank.
The High Court in Glasgow heard that Tosh waited until the victim was the only passenger left before turning off his taxi’s GPS tracking system and driving her to his house in Drumchapel.
At the time of the attack, the woman was intoxicated and incapable of giving consent.
Prosecutors used a combination of DNA evidence, text messages, and GPS data to prove that Tosh had deliberately concealed his location. He was eventually identified after a friend of the victim found his picture on social media.
Alongside his prison sentence, Tosh has been placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely and is subject to a 10-year non-harassment order preventing him from contacting the victim.
Faye Cook, procurator fiscal for High Court Sexual Offences, described the incident as a "despicable betrayal of trust by a man who was responsible for getting a woman home safely after a night out."
She added: “Thomas Tosh deliberately concealed his location as he drove the victim to his home, where he raped her while it was clear she was unable to consent.
"I want to recognise the courage shown by this young woman throughout the prosecution process. Her strength has helped bring a predatory offender to justice.
