A former Mayor of Bracknell has been jailed for three years after helping her son conceal evidence that he raped a 15-year-old girl while she was blacked out.
The teenager woke up in the backseat of his car with no clothes on and she could not remember what had happened.
Naheed Ejaz, 61, used a "conspiracy of silence" to protect 41-year-old Diwan Khan, a chauffeur in her family taxi business, while police were at her door.
The court heard that Khan, who often accompanied his mother to official events as her "Consort," drugged his victim with MDMA in vodka before raping her in the back of his car.
He filmed the attack and used the video he filmed of him having sex with her, choking and slapping her in the face, to threaten the girl, telling her he would "slit her throat" if she told anyone.
When police arrived at their home in September 2024, Ejaz blocked the entrance for over 90 seconds. During this time, she and Khan spoke in Urdu so that they could discuss what to do with the phone which contained damning evidence.
They avoided using the word "phone," which is the same in English. Khan referred to the device as a "big bell," to which Ejaz replied, "keep silent, I know." The phone, which contained footage of the assault, was never found.
Jailing Ejaz at Winchester Crown Court, Judge Rufus Taylor said she showed "no remorse" for her actions.
He told her: "You, Naheed Ejaz, may not have known initially why he wanted you to hide [the phone], but your son told you in Urdu ‘Some motherf****r girl has lied about her age to me’ and you chose to protect him."
The judge added that because of her help, "there was a real risk Khan might have avoided prosecution for the rape of an unconscious child."
The victim, who failed her GCSEs following the attack and later attempted suicide, described how the incident ruined her life. In a statement, she said: "I just wanted to end my life so the pain would go away."
Prosecutors noted that while Ejaz had been described as an "advocate for women’s rights," her "mother's love" for her son led her into criminality.
Khan was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the rape and was handed a three-year concurrent sentence for perverting the course of justice. He will serve eight years in prison before a parole board can consider whether it is safe to release him.
He is also subject to a sexual harm prevention order of 20 years along with an indefinite restraining order against the girl.
Khan must also comply with a notification requirement for the sex offenders register indefinitely.
