SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE PROPOSES NEW FEES FOR TAXI AND PRIVATE HIRE LICENCES

South Gloucestershire Council has unveiled a new pricing structure for taxi and private hire licensing, triggering a formal 28-day countdown for local drivers to have their say.

Under the fresh proposals, the cost of a one-year licence for both hackney carriages and private hire vehicles will be set at £265.20, while a five-year private hire operator’s licence is expected to cost £534.29.

The changes are being introduced under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976, which gives the council the authority to set such rates.

However, the plan is not yet set in stone. Officials have confirmed that the new fees will only be implemented if no objections are raised by the deadline of March 10.

For those who wish to contest the figures, the council has made it clear that "any objection to the proposed fees must be made in writing."

These formal letters must be sent to the Licensing Service in Bristol, and "objectors must clearly state their reasons for contesting the new rates."

If drivers or operators do speak out, the council has two months from the end of the consultation to resolve the issues.

Depending on the feedback received, the local authority may choose to stick with the current plan or enact the fees "with or without modifications."

If no one objects, the new prices will likely take effect immediately following the consultation period.
