GUERNSEY LAUNCHES SEARCH FOR NEW WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE TAXI DRIVERS

Transport officials in Guernsey are calling for drivers to come forward as they look to expand the island’s fleet of wheelchair-accessible taxis.

Driver & Vehicle Licensing (DVL) has opened applications for those interested in obtaining a specialised licence to help improve travel options for passengers with disabilities.

To be successful, applicants must own a vehicle that meets the DVL's specific standards for wheelchair transportation.

These "accessible taxis are fitted with shallow wheelchair ramps, alongside other specialist features," designed to make getting around the island easier for everyone.

The move by traffic and highway services aims to ensure the local taxi trade can better cater to the needs of the whole community.

Those interested in joining the service have until 20 February to submit their applications to the DVL.
