BOGUS TAXI DRIVER JAILED FOR 15 MONTHS FOR ABDUCTING AND ASSAULTING NOTTINGHAM STUDENT

A predator who posed as a taxi driver to kidnap and sexually assault a student has been sentenced to 15 months in prison.

Kelvin Ndoro, 41, lured the victim into his car in Nottingham city centre in the early hours of the morning by offering her a lift home.

Instead of taking her to her destination, he drove her to a supermarket car park where he locked the doors and assaulted her.

The court heard that the Nottingham Trent University student became suspicious when Ndoro drove in the opposite direction of her home.

During the ordeal, she managed to film Ndoro’s behaviour on her phone. When he eventually unlocked the doors to try and move her to the back seat, she seized the opportunity to flee and hid behind a wall.

She was later helped to safety by a group of young men.

In court, Judge Mark Watson condemned Ndoro’s "predatory behaviour," noting that the attacker had tried to blame the victim by claiming he thought she was a sex worker based on her clothes.

The judge told him: "It is a sad reality that women feel unsafe when alone and your actions have contributed to that atmosphere of fear."

He added that the public needs to know that those who prey on women "will be dealt with seriously and will receive custodial sentences."

The victim shared her trauma in a statement, saying she no longer feels safe in the city and felt "embarrassed and stupid for getting in the car."

Along with his prison sentence, Ndoro has been placed on the sex offender register for ten years and handed a ten-year sexual harm prevention order.

Judge Watson praised the bystanders who helped the victim, stating they "showed the other side of humanity."
