Two people have been arrested following a robbery in Aberdeen that targeted a veteran taxi driver in the early hours of Monday, October 6.
The 59-year-old driver, who has 13 years of experience, was tasked with taking three individuals to Rosehill Drive, but the incident occurred nearby on Rowan Road. During the robbery, he was threatened, chased out of his car, and had his work mobile phone stolen, which was later recovered.
The "terrifying" experience has left the driver "shaken up" and considering quitting his job.
Speaking to The Press and Journal about continuing his career, the driver said: “I’m just wondering now if I can carry on.”
He added that the incident will constantly be on his mind: “Having people in the back of the car, I’m going to have this incident in the back of my mind all of the time. It just makes it hard.”
Police Scotland confirmed the arrests in connection with the incident, a police spokesperson said: “Around 12.15am on Monday October 6, we received a report of a robbery in the Rowan Road area of Aberdeen.
“A 59-year-old man was threatened and had his mobile phone stolen. It was later recovered.
“A 32-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman have been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing.”
The driver is currently taking time off work and is uncertain if he will return to taxi driving.
The council plans to increase the flag-down fee during the day by 60p, moving it from £3.20 to £3.80. At night and on Sundays, the initial fee will rise to £5.70.
The drivers allege that fines result from NCP's "own system" and "terrible" camera recognition.
