PARIS TOPS LIST OF WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE CITIES FOR TAXIS WITH LONDON A CLOSE SECOND

A new study by taxi insurance specialists ChoiceQuote has identified the most and least expensive cities in the world for taking a cab.

Analysing 50 popular cities, the research found that Paris is the priciest, with an average five-mile journey costing £29.12, including a 7.5% tip. London was a close second at £27.96, which factors in a 10% tip, and Milan was third at £24.57, where a 7.5% tip is deemed acceptable.

Osaka, Japan placed as the fourth most expensive with a five-mile taxi journey coming to £24.06 on average. Amsterdam followed in fifth place, with prices around £24.

On the other end of the spectrum, Delhi, India, was ranked as the cheapest city for a taxi. A five-mile ride in Delhi, including a 12.5% tip, comes to a mere £2.06.

Cairo, Egypt, and Denpasar, Indonesia, were the next most affordable cities, with average costs of £2.31 and £2.41, respectively.

Another Indian city, Agra, was listed as the fourth cheapest at £3.74, followed by Shanghai in China at £4.14.

The study also highlighted tipping expectations, finding that gratuities are expected in 86% of the analysed cities.

The U.S. had the highest tipping expectation for cab drivers at 17.5%, followed by South Africa at 15%.

In India, Greece, and Mexico, a 12.5% tip is customary, while in the UK, Egypt, and Croatia, a 10% tip is expected.

In Vietnam, Russia, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Italy, Germany and France a 7.5% will be acceptable.
