CHESTER POLICE OPERATION CRACKS DOWN ON UNSAFE TAXIS: THREE IMMEDIATELY TAKEN OFF ROAD

In a recent operation in Chester city centre, police have reinforced their commitment to passenger safety by conducting checks on local taxis.

The initiative, dubbed "Operation Recordings," was a collaborative effort between the Chester Beat Management Team, the Special Constabulary, and various local licensing teams.

The operation, which took place on Friday, July 11, stopped and inspected 53 taxis.

This led to three vehicles being immediately taken off the road due to defects and seven rectification notices being issued. One driver was also issued a Traffic Offence Report for defective tyres, and 12 drivers were advised for failing to display mandatory "no smoking"signs.

Inspector James Wilson emphasised the importance of the checks, stating: "These operations send a clear message that taxi drivers must comply with regulations for a reason - to ensure the safety of all those using taxis in the Chester area."

He outlined key requirements, including a "road worthy" vehicle, a driver ID badge, and a fire extinguisher and first aid kit on board.

The police reported receiving "positive feedback... from a number of taxi drivers and members of the public," thanking everyone for their cooperation.
