POLICE URGE WREXHAM PUBLIC TO USE LICENSED TAXIS AFTER "UNAUTHORISED" VEHICLE REPORT

North Wales Police have issued a stark warning to the public in Wrexham, advising them to exercise caution when choosing taxis after a report of an "unauthorised taxi" operating in the city.

The alert, issued via a North Wales Police Wrexham town statement, highlighted the dangers of unlicensed drivers.

"Drivers working without a valid licence may not have undergone the necessary background checks, which could leave passengers vulnerable to potential harm," the statement read.

District Inspector Rhodri Ifans reinforced police advice, urging the public to prioritise safety.

"When getting a taxi, we would advise always booking through a licensed reputable company or arranging a lift with a friend or family – never accept a lift from a stranger in any circumstances," he stated.

Inspector Ifans further elaborated on the risks, explaining: "If you get into a car with a stranger, you could be putting your safety at risk as you may not know who is driving or if the vehicle is even safe."

He also provided practical advice for identifying legitimate taxis: "Licensed taxis must display taxi plates both in and outside of the vehicle and it's always worthwhile taking note, where possible, of the taxi licence number or the driver's details.”
