A local taxi company, Kerse Cabs, has been recognised for its exceptional commitment to the community, receiving the prestigious Jimmy Murphy Memorial Trophy. The award was presented at Talbot House during the Grangemouth Community Care AGM.
Kerse Cabs earned the accolade for consistently going "the extra mile" for local residents. Most recently, the firm provided free transportation for 25 elderly residents to and from Talbot House for VE Day celebrations last month, ensuring they didn't miss out.
This act of kindness is just one in a series of charitable endeavors by the company. Five years ago, during the COVID-19 lockdown, Gordon Waddell and the Kerse Cabs team delivered complimentary afternoon tea boxes and floral displays to brighten people's spirits.
Gordon Waddell, of Kerse Cabs, emphasised the company's ethos: "We’re not one of those firms out to make a mint – we always do as much as we can for the community."
Kirsty Nicholson, treasurer for Grangemouth Community Care, expressed immense gratitude for Kerse Cabs' assistance with the VE Day transport.
"When we couldn’t get our usual transport, we contacted a local taxi firm and when they heard our predicament, the owners and their drivers agreed to transport our members to and from Talbot House free of charge," she said.
"We were over the moon and extremely grateful. The firm involved was Kerse Cabs and we heard we were not the only people they were helping that day. With a little further investigation, we discovered that this sort of thing is a regular occurrence for the firm."
Nicholson concluded that it was "very fitting The Jimmy Murphy Trophy should go to them this year. Thank you Kerse Cabs for all you do and for the help you gave us."
The Jimmy Murphy Memorial Trophy is named after a beloved and respected Grangemouth resident known for his extensive community work. His wife donated the trophy in his honor to acknowledge individuals or groups who dedicate their time to helping the town.
Responsibility for awarding the trophy, which seeks worthy recipients from across the Grangemouth community, now lies with Grangemouth Community Care.
