TAXI TERROR: WOMAN JAILED FOR 26 MONTHS AFTER KNIFEPOINT ROBBERY IN COATBRIDGE

A woman has been jailed for 26 months following a terrifying knifepoint robbery of a taxi driver in Coatbridge last year.

Jamie Lee Black, 30, of Glasgow, and her co-accused, Mark Doyle, 36, of Coatbridge, admitted to assaulting the male driver and robbing him of cash and his car keys.

The terrifying ordeal occurred in Manse Street, Coatbridge, on September 9 last year. Airdrie Sheriff Court heard from prosecutor Kevin Morrow that a taxi was booked using Doyle's mobile phone shortly after 1am.

The two accused entered the rear of a Skoda taxi dispatched to Langloan Street, where they were staying. Mr Morrow stated the driver "agreed to go to Manse Street to pick up a friend."

It was there that "the two accused presented knives and Doyle said, 'give us all your money'."

Doyle then "got out of the taxi and removed a pencil case from the driver's door pocket. This contained about £200 in fares." He also took the keys from the ignition before both "ran off."

Black and Doyle were traced an hour later at the Langloan Street address. Black was found to be in possession of over £80 in mixed notes and coins.

Upon being detained, she told police officers: "We were only going out for fags. I didn't know he was going to do this."

Jailing Black, Sheriff Tony McGlennan ordered that she will be under supervision for a year upon her release. Sentence on Mark Doyle has been deferred until January, and he remains in custody.
