NO INCREASE TO MAXIMUM TAXI FARES IN MORAY
Moray Council has agreed that there will be no rise to maximum taxi fares in the region.
As the licensing authority for taxi operators in the region, the council is required by law to review charges every 18-months.
Currently, the maximum fare is a charge of £3.96 for the first mile, then 33p for each additional tenth of a mile.
The maximum fare represents the highest amount an operator is allowed to charge, although they have the flexibility to charge less if they wish.
It follows an informal consultation with Moray taxi operators, and a wider month-long consultation inviting responses from the wider public.
There were seven responses, five of which were in favour of maximum fares remaining as they are, while two favoured an increase.
Councillor Paul McBain, Chair of the Licensing Committee, said: “After carefully considering the feedback received, the committee agreed that keeping fares at their current level was the right decision at this time.
“We understand the financial pressures faced by both taxi operators and passengers, and it is important to ensure a fare structure is in place that recognises both running costs and passenger budgets.”
