A recent enforcement operation conducted by Barnsley Council and South Yorkshire Police uncovered more than 100 out-of-town taxis/PHVs operating in the town centre in just under two hours.
The operation, which took place on July 12 from 7:20pm to 9:10pm at the Eldon Street taxi rank, was initiated in response to "concerns in relation to the volume of private hire and hackney carriage vehicles licensed by other authorities that are working in the town centre," according to a council report.

Four Barnsley-licensed vehicles were also stopped for several issues.

It continued: "The principal consideration for all is, as always, one of public safety."
The council confirmed that "proactive and reactive enforcement operations will continue to take place on a regular basis."
