Bizarre footage shows the moment a taxi driver desperately trying to avoid a parking ticket sped off down a motorway with a police officer clinging to his bonnet.
The Mirror reports that the officer was left clinging on for his life for several kilometres after he leapt onto the vehicle to try to stop the man fleeing.
The dramatic incident was caught on the dashcam of another vehicle in the Vietnamese capital city of Hanoi.
Earlier the policeman had tried to issue the man a ticket for a parking violation in the Soc Son District on the outskirts of the city. But the taxi driver decided to speed off before receiving the penalty notice. Keen that the man did not evade justice, the police officer jumped on the bonnet of the taxi, thinking it would make him stop. However, the tactic backfired when the cabbie sped off along National Highway 3 which connects Hanoi with the northern province of Thai Nguyen.
“People were screaming at the driver to stop,” one eyewitness said. Another police car tried to give chase but he could not keep up with the speeding taxi.
A Soc Son police spokesman said the taxi driver had parked in the wrong place so the officer had asked to see his licence so he could issue a ticket.
The driver eventually stopped and the police officer was unharmed, the police spokesman added. It is not reported whether police have identified and arrested the taxi driver or whether he is still at large.
