An Uber driver in Russia had a shocking experience with a bear during a night-time drive. The protective mother bear jumped out and attacked the car in order to stop her cub being run over.
The driver caught a flash of the bear’s eyes in the distance and veered onto the other side of the road to avoid it but the startled creature still launched an attack on the car. It ran at the car and stood on its hind legs with its front paws on the bonnet, stopping the car dead and terrifying the surprised Uber driver.
She and her cub then ran across the other side of the road to safety and the driver carried on his journey.
On inspecting the car for damage later on the driver saw clear outlines of the bear's paw prints and scuffs from its claws on the bonnet.
The driver was travelling at about 65mph when he saw a flash of eyes and began to slow down when a silhouette could be seen. He said: “I thought that it would cross the road and would not touch me but it attacked the car. The bear scratched the windscreen, bonnet and wing and bent the frame of the car number plate.”
It is not clear what kind of bear it was but brown bears and Himalayans are commonly found in the Komsomolsk-on-Amur area.
