Shocking CCTV footage shows the "appalling" moment a London taxi driver dragged an unconscious passenger by the feet from his cab and left him lying in the middle of a road in central London.
City of London police today launched an appeal over the incident, releasing shocking footage of the suspect seemingly dumping the man in the path of oncoming cars.
The clip shows the moment the victim banged his head as he was pulled from the taxi and was knocked unconscious.
The taxi driver was filmed leaving the man lying in the middle Fenchurch Place, near Fenchurch Street station, before driving away.
An off-duty police officer discovered the injured man around 15 minutes after the clip was filmed, a spokesman said.
About 10 minutes later, the driver reappeared as members of the public tended to the victim, who was still lying in the road.
The driver brazenly spoke to police but did not mention that the man had been in his vehicle, the spokesman added.
The victim was taken to hospital by paramedics from London Ambulance Service.
City of London Police called on any witnesses to the incident which happened just after 6am on May 16 to come forward.
PC Christopher Hook said: “We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident in May. To forcibly move a vulnerable person from your taxi and to leave them lying in the middle of the road is appalling and we need to find the man that did this.”
