A taxi driver who sexually assaulted a woman after picking her up from outside a Birmingham bar has been jailed.
The Birmingham Mail reports that the victim, in her 20’s, had been left suffering from nightmares as a result of the incident and doesn’t feel safe going out at night.
She and two friends had been for a night out in the city centre before getting into a taxi outside Players Bar, Broad Street at around 2.40am on December 27.
Driver Abdullah Miakhil, who was not booked by the trio, dropped the two friends off at their destination. The 24-year-old then subjected the woman, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, to a horrifying sex attack before letting her out.
Miakhil of Edgbaston, had denied, but was found guilty of sexual assault following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.
He was sentenced to ten months and ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years.
In passing sentence Judge Phillip Parker QC said: “You chose to take advantage of a lone and vulnerable woman in your taxi, the effect of which has been severe. You know perfectly well from your employment that if taxi drivers abuse their position of trust that is a very serious offence.”
