A taxi driver from Kingstanding has revealed drivers are being constantly pelted with eggs and stones by youngsters.
Mohammed Yaseen works at Central and Status Cars, in Shady Lane, and revealed a number of his drivers have been physically assaulted by customers in recent weeks.
According to ITV News. Mr Yaseen says he is “fed up” with the ongoing incidents, which come after two teenagers were chased down by police dogs moments before they threatened a Central and Status Cars driver with a baseball bat on June 2.
“We’re all fed up with this at the moment. We provide a good service and my drivers are just doing their jobs. Some of them will avoid going through Warren Farm now because of what’s happening. Sunday just gone, for example, drivers had eggs thrown at the cars. It happens frequently with stones as well. We’ve also had a couple of really bad incidents such as the one last week on Hever Avenue where, luckily, police intervened.
“Four weeks ago on Felstone Road, though, it was much, much worse. Young lads dragged one of my drivers out of his car, held a knife to his throat and took his keys, money and taxi system. That happened at about 11pm on May 31 and the driver has since gone abroad.
“Incidents like this have really shaken my guys up. We’re all trying to earn an honest living and enjoy what we do.”
Schoolboys from Winson Green and Handsworth were questioned on suspicion of attempted robbery following the incident in Hever Avenue. They have since been released on bail until next month.
West Midlands Police confirmed efforts are ongoing to trace a third suspect.
